 Marching Band First Timers


If you are new to Marching Band, there are various sources on the net.  Wikipedia is an excellent reference for the definition of Marching Band.

In summary:
  • Marching Bands in the broadest terms, is a group of instrumental musicians and performers who incorporate some type of marching with their musical performance.
  • Marching Bands are categorized by function and the type of show they perform.
  • The different type of Marching Bands are: Military Bands, Parade Bands, and Show Bands.
  • The ANHS Marching Band is a 'show' band that performs 'field shows'  at special events or competition usually on an American football field during the Fall Season
  • Similar to any sports, there are division classes within the field show competition.
    • 1A - no more than 60 members
    • 2A - no more than 80 members
    • 3A - no more than 100 members
    • 4A - no more than 140 members
    • 5A - no min or max number of members, usually 150+ members
  • Each class  is judged for High Music, High Marching, High Effect, High Percussion, and High Auxiliary
  • Sweepstakes is the top honors given to the school with the highest tally for overall effect based on all categories.
  • Last but not least, the Scoring Manual.
